2007-08 NAIA-SIDA Publication Awards and Ike Pearson Announced

TAMPA - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and Sports Information Directors of America (SIDA) announced the recipient of the 2007-08 Clarence "Ike" Pearson Award and the Publication Contest winners. Held at Jackson's Bistro on the Tampa Bay waterfront during the 2008 NAIA-SIDA Convention, the Ike Pearson Awards Luncheon was attended by nearly 50 Sports Information Directors and guests on Saturday, June 28.

Dave Parsons, Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University Sports Information Director was given the 32nd Annual Clarence "Ike" Pearson Award. Handed out annually to the outstanding NAIA sports information director, the award is named for the former statistical crew chief for the NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship. Dave follows in the steps of numerous SID legends to be tabbed with this honor, one of which includes a fellow conference SID and 2000 recipient, Mark Womack of Cedarville (Ohio) University. Womack presented the "Ike" Pearson to Parsons.

Parsons wrapped up his 10th season as the SID at his alma mater. Overall, he has performed in some sports information capacity since 1990 at MVNU. He currently holds office as NAIA-SIDA President and is an active member of CoSIDA.

In all, there were 16 publication contests with over 100 winners. California Baptist and the team of Micah McDaniel, David Noblett, Jerry Lund and Phil Ellsworth won the Gary Spitler Memorial Award for Excellence in Publications. This award is given to the Sports Information staff that accumulated the most total points among all the contests.
