Former Lindenwood (Mo.) Athlete Drafted By Harlem Globetrotters

Donald Thomas was drafted by the Harlem Globetrotters

July 7, 2008

Former Lindenwood (Mo.) University athlete Donald Thomas was one of six players drafted by the Harlem Globetrotters on Wednesday (July 2) during the team’s second annual player draft.

Thomas was a basketball player at Lindenwood in 2006 when, on a dare, he attempted the high jump and cleared seven feet. He went on to join the Lions track team and finished second at the NAIA Indoor Championship that season.

After graduating from Lindenwood, Thomas enrolled in graduate school at Auburn where he won the 2007 NCAA Indoor High Jump title. Last year, he won the World Indoor title with a leap of 7’8.5”, and he is currently hoping to be selected to represent the Bahamas at this summer’s Olympic Games.

Other players drafted were Georgetown’s Patrick Ewing Jr., Arkansas’s Sonny Weems, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s William Bullard, Siena’s Tay Fisher, and Oklahoma’s Longar Longar. The six players will be invited to camp in the fall to attempt to join the Globetrotters for their 83rd consecutive season of touring the world.
